"A New Day" Original Painting
Description
My grandparents owned a tiny cottage on a lake in northern Wisconsin when I was a kid. The dock was on the marshy end of the lake, so we weren't able to swim, but we would fish. Gramps would get my sisters and me up before sunrise and take us out in his little fishing boat, worms at the ready. We spent more time crying about having to stab worms than actually fishing, and none of us liked to eat fish, so it became more of a bonding ritual than a fishing expedition.
This painting is from my memory of one of those mornings, the dark water hiding its depths while the blinding sun colored the sky ahead of us. We could hear crickets in the deep shadows, still untouched by sunlight, and frogs, just waking up, croaking from their lily pads. I miss my gramps!
Matted and ready to be framed. Painting measures 9 × 11.
